Meet Our Founder

Leslie Riggins

Coach Leslie Riggins is the Founder and Head Coach of Texas Heat Track Club and has dedicated more than 42 years to coaching and developing young athletes. What began as a desire to support his own son grew into a lifelong passion for mentoring youth through athletics and helping athletes reach their full potential both on and off the track. A lifelong Coach, Riggins coached in track and field, basketball, football, and cross country throughout his career, representing Burnet Middle School, Dobie Middle School, John H. Reagan High School, and LBJ. His coaching experiences laid the foundation for a coaching career that has impacted generations of athletes across Central Texas.  Since entering the coaching ranks in 1984 and later founding

Texas Heat,

Coach Riggins has become one of the most respected track and field coaches in the state of Texas. Throughout his career, he has helped develop numerous state champions, state record holders, and collegiate scholarship recipients. His coaching success includes more than 15 individual and team state championships, along with producing athletes who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level and later returned to coach alongside him.  Coach Riggins' dedication and impact have earned significant recognition, including being named Coach of the Year for 4A and 5A programs in 2003 and being inducted into the AAU Hall of Fame in 2024, a testament to his decades of service and commitment to youth athletics.

What Coach Riggins enjoys most is watching athletes grow over time, from their first days on the track to high school success, state championships, scholarship opportunities, and beyond. He believes every student-athlete is more than just an athlete and strives to help young people develop character, discipline, confidence, and life skills that extend far beyond competition.

For Coach Riggins, Texas Heat is more than a track club; it's an opportunity to give back to the community, open doors for young athletes, and help families pursue opportunities through education and athletics.  His mission remains the same today as it was over four decades ago: to invest in young people, build future leaders, and never stop coaching, whether on the track or in life.
